South Korean international Cho So-Hyun joins Halifax Tides
The Halifax Tides made a splash this week as the club announced the signing of South Korean international Cho So-Hyun, regarded among her nation's football leaders and top-capped internationals with 156 appearances to her name.
So-Hyun, 37, heads to Halifax follow an illustrious club career which has seen her compete across England's top tiers in both the Women's Super League and Women's Super League 2. The former Korean Women's Player of the Year has played for clubs ranging from Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United and Birmingham City before returning to play in her home country in 2025.
The midfielder's accolades include five championships in the WK League, winning four titles with Incheon Hyundai Steel Red Angels WFC between 2013 and 2017. She's also appeared in multiple FIFA Women's World Cup tournaments, captaining South Kore in 2015 and 2019.
Now, in the twilight of her career, she joins a Tides squad looking to establish themselves after a challenging inaugural season.
“The Tides felt like the right next step for me,” said So-Hyun via press release. “I’m excited for the challenge ahead and ready to work hard and compete for the team.”
It's expected that she'll play both a leadership role on and off the pitch.
"Cho is a player that has done it all, at both the club and international level. Her creativity and ability to dictate the rhythm through the midfield, will allow us to not only connect the lines, but link with the attack," said Tides head coach Stephen Hart.
