Sources: Wanderers agree to terms to sell Tiago Coimbra to IFK Göteborg
The Halifax Wanderers have agreed to terms to sell 22-year old striker Tiago Coimbra to IFK Göteborg in Allsvenskan, Sweden's first division, sources told HFX Football Post on Thursday. Sources added the deal is pending approvals.
Coimbra's move, should it come to fruition, comes on the heels of a strong Canadian Premier League (CPL) season where he won the Best Canadian U-21 Player award, not to mention a call-up to the Canadian Men's National Team under head coach Jesse Marsch. Previously, he trialed with both English Premier League side West Ham United and MLS' Houston Dynamo.
However, with clubs in North America and Europe interested, the situation came to a head this month as the Wanderers received multiple offers for Coimbra's services. As he is under contract, it's understand that the Wanderers will receive a transfer fee (more details to follow).
Coimbra played three seasons in Halifax, registering 64 appearances while scoring 20 goals and adding five assists. 2025 saw the Brazilian-Canadian breakout as he led the Wanderers with 13 goals in all competitions. He also received nominations for the CPL's Players' Player of the Year award.
TrueNorthFoot first posted that Coimbra was set for a European move.
