Sources: Star defender Amer Didić set to sign with Cavalry FC

Veteran defender Amer Didić looks set for a return to Alberta, sources told HFX Football Post on Thursday, but this time he’ll be suiting up for Cavalry FC. Sources said the centre-back and the club have come to a three-year agreement following interest from several suitors across the Canadian Premier League (CPL). The move was first reported by TrueNorthFoot.

Didić, 31, remains one of the CPL’s star defenders. Standing 6-foot-4 (193 cm), the Zenica-born but Edmonton-raised centre-back is a threat with and without the ball due to his size, football IQ and experience. He prepares to head to Cavalry following two seasons with Atlético Ottawa, albeit coming off a major injury. Didić played four matches in 2025 before fracturing his right leg.

Didić, of course, is the second member of Atlético Ottawa’s North Star Cup winning squad to head west as goalkeeper Nathan Ingham was confirmed as Cavalry’s new starting ‘keeper earlier this month. He signed a three-year deal.

It's been an off-season of change for Cavalry as long-time captain and 'keeper Marco Carducci joined the Halifax Wanderers. They also recently announced that both Diego Gutiérrez and Shamit Shome were leaving the club following the expiry of their contracts.

Didić is a veteran of several CPL clubs, including the now defunct FC Edmonton, Pacific FC and Atlético Ottawa. He also featured with USL sides Swope Park Rangers and San Antonio FC. He has two caps with the Canadian Men's National Team.
