Sources: Luca Accettola training with CF Monterrey
Luca Accettola, one of York United’s promising young talents, is training with Mexican giants CF Monterrey, sources told HFX Football Post on Tuesday.
Accettola, 21, was drafted fifth overall by the Nine Stripes in last year’s CPL - U Sports draft following a standout season at York University. He then signed his first professional contract after impressing head coach Mauro Eustáquio with his presence in midfield, playing across 15 matches and scoring two goals. Accettola scored his first professional goal against Pacific FC on June 14.
York United and Monterrey have developed a relationship since the CPL side was bought by Game Plan Sports, which is run by a Mexican ownership group. They announced a partnership in 2024, collaborating across scouting and coaching departments, with numerous Monterrey youth players, be it Orlando Botello or Josué Martinez, having been loaned to the CPL. Sources said Accettola is being monitored by Monterrey, with the possibility of a loan to their U-23 program.
Accettola's contract runs through 2026, with club options for 2027 and 2028. He previously spent time with Toronto FC in MLS Next Pro.
