Sources: Defender Loïc Cloutier drawing European interest
Centre-back Loïc Cloutier is the latest Atlético Ottawa player to draw interest following a strong 2025 campaign, with the 21-year old garnering attention from clubs in Belgium, Sweden and France, sources told HFX Football Post on Tuesday.
Cloutier, a Québec City-native, was a key player for Atlético Ottawa’s back line despite it being his first season as a professional. A ball playing centre-back, he finished third in the league for passes (1,870), fourth in interceptions (38) and suited up for 31 matches across all competitions. With several of Atlético Ottawa’s young players in demand, it remains to be seen which — if any — the club will part with before their Concacaf Champions Cup tie versus Nashville SC. The North Star Cup victory, not to mention the viral nature of the CPL final, has put a spotlight on the club’s players.
Previous to his time in the nation's capital, Cloutier graduated from CF Montréal’s academy, captaining the club’s U-23 side. He also spent several years with Canada’s youth national team program. In 2024, he attended Atlético Ottawa’s pre-season in Mexico before going on to play with the club’s Ligue1 Québec affiliate, OSU Atlético, where he made 19 appearances.
Cloutier signed a first-team contract with Atlético Ottawa before the start of the 2025 season. The deal carries through 2026, with a club option for 2027.
