HFX Wanderers ink 2024 CPL draft pick Daniel Clarke to U Sports contract

Goalkeeper Daniel Clarke is staying in Halifax, signing a U Sports contract that will keep him with the Wanderers to start the season, sources briefed on the deal told The Wanderers Notebook.

Clarke was recently selected fifth overall by the Wanderers in the 2024 CPL / U Sports draft following a standout season at Cape Breton University (CBU) where he won a national U Sports championship. Over his three seasons at CBU, Clarke was named a AUS First-Team-All-Star twice.

By signing a U Sports contract, Clarke is able to compete in the CPL without compromising his U Sports eligibility. Unless signed to a standard player contract, Clarke's current deal will expire on August 15.

Clarke's signature rounds out Halifax's keeper situation as the club announced last week they had signed U-21 player Aiden Rushenas to a contract for the 2024 season with an option for 2025. Veteran Yann Fillion is entering the final year of his deal with the club.
