Former Canadian international and Tides goalkeeper Erin McLeod retires due to injury

The Halifax Tides announced on Tuesday that veteran goalkeeper and former Canadian international Erin McLeod is retiring due to a season-ending injury.
McLeod, 42, was Halifax's first signing in club history, netting one of the most decorated Canadian football players for the Northern Super League's only East Coast club. However, McLeod was limited to six appearances for the Tides due to injury. Her career spanned over 11 clubs spread across the world in addition to her 119 appearances for the Canadian Women's National Team.
"This is not the way I imagined my final season ending but I am incredibly grateful for every moment I've had in this game," McLeod said in a press release.
"Halifax has welcomed me, made me a part of their community and given me a chance to be part of something historic with the Northern Super League. While I won't be finishing this season on the pitch, I'm proud to have been part of this inaugural season."
McLeod's signing made a splash when announced in October given her experiences and trophy case. Tides sporting director Amit Batra credited the Olympic champion with helping to build the culture of the fledgling club.
"Erin's arrival and presence in Halifax was about much more than football," he said. "(She) brought experience, knowledge, and a kind-style of leadership to help this club develop a tight knit locker room culture and she did this all while becoming a new parent because of her love of the game and country.
"She could've easily retired earlier and gone on coaching and culture development, which are passions of hers so we are honoured to have had Erin McLeod represent Halifax Tides in our inaugural year of the Northern Super League. I know this team, the fans and the community at large will miss her presence and we wish her all the best in the future."
The Tides will honour McLeod with a post-match ceremony following their home match on Saturday, September 27.
